One of four Belgian Sheepdogs, the Belgian Tervuren shepherd breeds of dogs is usually mistaken for a German shepherd because they closely resemble one another in size, coat, and color.it's pronounced Ter-VER-en.

They are a medium to medium-large breed. 

They weigh between 45-75 pounds and are anywhere from 22" to 27" tall.

Due to their high energy and size, they're not ideal apartment dogs but are perfect for families with large yards or those that have access to parks or fields where they will run.

Their coat color is recognized by the AKC within the colors of a mahogany or fawn base with black tips, masks, and ears. a little amount of white on the nose, chest, and chin is permissible. 

The long, straight, thick, and harsh outer coat and soft dense undercoat need daily grooming to stop matting and knots. 

They shed throughout the year, but it's typically light shedding.


As a watchdog or family dog, the Belgian Tervuren shepherd breeds of dogs are protective, loyal, and extremely smart. 

They're energetic dogs that require many exercise and activity whether or not they are performing on the farm or kept mainly as a companion dog. 

They have to be socialized and trained from an early age.
